7th Annual Cycle the WAVE: Sunday, September 14, 2014
Cycle the WAVE 2013 was a fun-tastic day! What fun it was with over 1200 women & girls cycling and spinning! Thank you to all the riders, volunteers, pedal partners, sponsors and vendors for an absolutely fantastic day! Over 1200 women got on their bikes to raise awareness and funds to support domestic violence programs across Washington State.Thank you for your amazing fundraising this year! We are very close to our goal. All funds raised through September 30th are counted towards earning the exclusive Cycle the WAVE vest (only available to those raising $500 or more), the top two individual fundraiser gifts, and the top team party.
Cycle the WAVE (Women Against Violence Everywhere), is a sponsored, non-competitive, all-women’s cycling event. It is a venue created for women of all ages and fitness levels to experience camaraderie, increase awareness of domestic violence through visibility and raise funds for domestic violence programs.
The lengths of the varied routes offer something for everyone: 15, 23, 42 and 59-mile routes. And BRAND new for 2013 – Bike Spin Classes at our event!
The first ride in 2008 generated 233 riders and by 2013 participation has grown to 1206 women riders of all ages.
You Can Make a Difference!
We are on our way with this year’s Cycle the WAVE at meeting our Pedal Partner Giving goal of $70,000. To donate please go to the Pedal Partner tab in the menu bar. We have a new and more user-friendly rider and/or donor registration online program, and we are excited to introduce it this year. Thank you for your support!
In six years Cycle the WAVE Washington has raised nearly $650,000. In 2012, grants totaling $120,000 were awarded to organizations providing a continuum of services in the Washington State counties of King, Snohomish, Pierce, Chelan and Douglas. Recipients of these awards were:
- YWCA of Pierce County
- Abused Deaf Women’s Advocacy Services (ADWAS)
- SAGE of Chelan and Douglas Counties (Safety Advocacy Growth Empowerment)
- New Beginnings
- DAWN (Domestic Abuse Women’s Network)
Funds will be directed specifically to support programs for legal advocacy, deaf and deaf/blind populations, medical advocacy for the education of medical professionals and for children and teen populations. In 2013, a national outreach campaign of expansion and our long-term vision was realized when a successful Cycle the WAVE event was unveiled in Massachusetts. Watch in 2014 for another national venue to be revealed.
